Penticton School of Dance
is proud to see many of our graduated dancers actively pursuing
professional careers around the world on broadway, film, tv, cruiseships
or with professional dance companies as leading soloists.
After receiving her dance training from Penticton School of Dance,
Krystal enrolled for post secondary education at the Randolph Academy
for the Performing Arts in Toronto, where she majored in musical
theatre. Krystal then went on to become an original cast member in
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of “Bombay Dreams” on Broadway and she
also became part of the world premiere cast of “The Lord of the Rings”
musical in Toronto soon after. The former ‘Miss Penticton’ has found
herself performing alongside artists such as Alicia Keys and Jann Arden,
and she has appeared on television shows such as “Good Morning America”,
“Live with Regis and Kelly”, “Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade”, "Canada AM",
and Toronto’s “Fashion Cares 2005: Bollywood Cowboy”.
Born in Penticton, BC, Jennifer Welsman received her dance training at the Penticton School of Dance before joining the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Professional Division, in 1993. Prior to graduating with ‘Distinction’ in 1998 she was awarded the prestigious Prince Edward Award and was flown to England to receive the award from the Prince himself. She was invited to join the RWB immediately following graduation for the 1998/1999 season, and was promoted to second soloist in 2002. Welsman’s repertoire includes the leading roles in Nutcracker (Yordanova/Menon), Swan Lake (after Petipa) and The Sleeping Beauty (after Petipa). She has also performed featured roles in Giselle (Wright), Romeo and Juliet (van Dantzig), Allegro Brillante (Balanchine), Serenade (Balanchine), Concerto Barocco (Balanchine), Dracula (Godden), Miroirs (Godden), Symphony in D (Kylián), Butterfly (Nixon), Carmina Burana (Wainrot), Le Jazz Hot (Lemay) and Rodeo (de Mille). She has also had roles created for her in Mark Godden’s The Magic Flute and Val Caniparoli’s A Cinderella Story. When not dancing with the RWB, Welsman has been invited to appear as a soloist with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra ‘Sunday with the Family’ concert series and Jennifer also plays the roll of ‘China Doll’ on the Gemini award winning children’s program ‘The Toy Castle’.
Capri trained at Penticton School of Dance until her graduation and she soon found herself training with the Arts Umbrella Dance Company in Vancouver before being accepted into the ‘”Joffrey Ballet” Trainee Program in New York City. Capri has worked with several notable choreographers including Edgar Zendejas, Roberto Campanella & Geoconda Barbuto and Capri’s natural dance talent continues to be recognized by industry professionals from all over the world!
After receiving her dance training from
Penticton School of Dance Bonnie
went on to pursue her dance career with the Richmond Academy of Dance,
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School and The National Ballet School of
Canada. She has partaken in the Banff Centre for the Arts summer
programs in both the training program & festival dance and she has
danced with Ballet Jörgen Canada for 4 consecutive seasons before
joining the Alberta Ballet as a guest artist. After leaving Penticton School of Dance where she studied 1990 - 2000 Julia Zennstrom went on to graduate from the School of Toronto Dance Theatre in 2003. There she performed in the works of Christopher House, Julia Sasso, Danny Grossman, Sharon Moore and Michael Trent. She then completed the MainDance Bridging Program where she had the opportunity to work with Karen Jamieson, Linda Rabin, Martha Carter, Shauna Elton, Santa Aloi and Mortal Coil. She recently apprenticed and participated in the creation of the new solo “Genuine Risk” with Day Helesic (Movent). Julia recently premiered a new solo choreographed by Desirée Dunbar at the 2007 Vancouver International Dance Festival.
Richard Philion is a recent graduate of Penticton School of Dance and throughout his training with us he was accepted into the prestigious National Ballet of Canada where he worked alongside some of the biggest names in the industry. Richard has received a countless amount of awards & scholarships throughout his years of dance and after returning to Penticton School of Dance to finish up his training in his last couple of years of high school, Richard quickly went on to sign a contract with Carnival Cruiselines where he was able to perform, teach and travel the world for 9 months. Upon Richard’s return from his work with Carnival Cruiselines he auditioned for Jean Ann Ryan Productions and was immediately hired to work with Norwegian Cruiselines. Richard will be enjoying more professional dance work along with the benefits of world travel for the next 6 months under his new contract with Norwegian.
A true triple-threat performer, Nadya started her dance training at Penticton School of Dance in 1995 and had the opportunity to participate in many prestigious summer programs such as Alberta Ballet’s Professional Summer Program, the Banff Center’s Dance Training Program, and En Pointe (with teachers from Alberta Ballet and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet). Nadya has represented the Penticton Kiwanis, the Kelowna Kiwanis, and the Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts at the BC Festival of the Arts Provincial Championships in the disciplines of classical dance, stage dance, musical theatre and classical voice receiving 2 runner-up titles at these events. Nadya was also named the “Grand Champion Soloist” at the Regional “Great Canadian Dance Challenge” in Lake Country in 2007. Also actively involved in the Kelowna musical theatre circuit with the “Viva Musica Society” Nadya has appeared as Gigi in their 2007 production of Miss Saigon, and Rumpleteazer in their record-breaking production of Cats in 2006. Nadya is now pursuing her dance and voice training in the musical theatre program at “Laine Theatre Arts College for the Performing Arts” in Epsom, England. Look out for Nadya on Broadway soon!
Tatiana (Semenoff) Nahorniak Tatiana has been a highly sought-after ballet instructor in Calgary, Alberta since graduating from, both Penticton School of Dance and the University of Calgary (dance program), then especially after receiving her certification from the Royal Academy of Dance’s teacher training program. Tatiana has been teaching ballet in Calgary, Alberta for several years where she has enjoyed putting her students through ballet exams, competitions and year-end recitals. As a dancer, Tatiana has received provincial recognition and many scholarships & awards for her high level of performances and now, as a teacher, she looks forward to watching her own students work towards the same goals as she once had. Tatiana is admired by every student she has taught and she is in high demand for guest teaching, adjudicating and choreographing in the B.C. & Alberta areas. * Congratulations to Tatiana & Ryan, proud new parents of a beautiful baby boy! |
